Products and Services
Ongoing Projects
* Since BDS officially started only last July, 2005, all of the projects are on its pilot phase.
Printing Press
BDS Printing press was established mainly to have a cost-efficient BDS Center that can deliver professionalized services to its internal clients. From its current operation, there was an estimated savings of 30% from the MRI’s previous cost. Under this project, the photocopying machine was also centralized.
Solar
This project counter the needs of “unelectrified” barangays to have access to electricity via solar energy. Solar Home System Loans is a BDS product made available to CARD (stockholders) and Non CARD clients at Oriental Mindoro. The program operates in coordination and partnership with Shell Solar Philippines. The marketing and promotional aspect of the business is handled by Shell Solar Philippines while BDS handles the financing side. From 13 months of operation, as of February 2007, 120 clients have availed this service. Because of this solar energy, the clients with businesses can extend their working hours and the children can study longer.
Housing
This is a BDS product window that caters the housing needs of CARD’s selected clients. The loaned money is for related housing purposes usage such as land acquisition, building constructions and improvement. This product is in line with CARD’s Social Mission in promoting decent housing conditions to live in, wherein CARD Members who are stockholders are its primary beneficiaries.
Bulk sourcing / Distribution system
The usual practice of the clients with SSS especially those, which are located in the remote areas, are to pick up the goods in the wholesalers or supermarkets (usually located in the center of the municipality, wherein they shoulder the transportation cost) and then, pay it on a cash basis. In this way, BDS aims to facilitate easier distribution with the end goal of lowering the cost per unit input and delivering it in their respective SSS the soonest time possible. The anticipated effect of this service will be community based touching the basic needs of different individual. As of today, this project was on its 8th months of operation at Oriental Mindoro. The clients have very much appreciated the service being provided because of the following reasons;
- they have the choice to get the goods on a one-week;
- lessens their transportation cost and
- lower cost.
In addition, BDS have made indirect impact within the community, these are;
- the other rolling stores tend to take note of the prices and terms of CARD-BDS rolling cargo, therefore lowering the selling price of the other existing market players,
- created potential sub sector players in the market, wherein two of the beneficiaries tend to facilitate the orders of the other Sari-Sari Store in her community (in which most of this are also members of CARD only they are located outside the route of distribution)
- the other distributors continuously communicate with CARD-BDS and propose different promos and
- created forward and backward linkaging, the other producers (which are also CARD clients/members,) in the area were encouraged to deliver and distribute their produce in the bulk sourcing project of SSS.
